Dear Members of SAEM Community Groups,

As you likely already know, SAEM has been working for several months on upgrading from our former LISTSRV to a newer, feature-rich Community LISTSRV Discussion platform.  Today we are excited to say that the system is now ready and available to all our Community groups--from Academies and Interest Groups to Committees and Task Forces to AACEM and Board members! Please take the time to read through this email, as it contains essential information that will help you get the most possible out of this exciting new system.

Summary - Key Points

  • Over the next 48 hours, you will be auto-subscribed to discussions for all groups you are a part of. Details
  • You now have many ways to connect using the SAEM Community, including but not limited to traditional email LISTSRV functions. Details
  • You can find answers to all your questions here, on the SAEM Community YouTube channel, and in the SAEM Community Support and Feedback discussions.

As we have announced before, both this new system and the old LISTSRV system will run concurrently for several weeks, so that we can make sure everything is running smoothly before making the final switch to using the new system exclusively in September.

So what does this mean for you?

Freedom to Connect in the Way That Works For YOU

imageInstead of the one-size-fits-all emails of the old LISTSRV system, the new SAEM Community Discussions platform gives you four different engagement options: website, mobile app, mobile website, or email LISTSRV.

View our introductory video on the Community platform options.

The website and mobile site work as typical websites and will adapt automatically to your mobile device.  The mobile app runs on iPhone, iPad, and Android devices.  And the Community email LISTSRV now provides four different subscription options for communicating with other members of your group:

Real Time

Users set to Real Time Subscription will receive an HTML email for each Discussion post.  In most cases these emails are sent by the mail server nearly instantaneously.

Daily Digest

Users with a Daily Digest Subscription will receive a single HTML email compiling all posts over a 24-hour period. Delivery time is generally between 1:00 and 5:00 AM Eastern.

Legacy

The Legacy Subscription level provides the capabilities of a traditional LISTSRV. Users with Legacy Subscriptions will receive messages from every post at the same rate as a Real Time Subscription; however Legacy Subscription emails have several differences:

  • Legacy emails are text-based emails.  HTML is stripped (so no text formatting, special colors, graphics, etc.). This is the same as the previous SAEM LISTSRV.
  • Legacy emails allow a subscriber to respond to a message or create a new discussion thread directly from their email system, rather than having to go to the Community website to post.
  • Legacy emails do not allow direct attachments.  Attached files will appear as links that will take subscribers to the Community site to view or download the file.  This feature is helpful since large files can be rejected by email server message size restrictions or blocked by hospital network security settings.

No Emails

The No Emails subscription option will not generate any email messages for the user.  He or she can still participate in the Discussion directly on the website but won't receive email notifications when a new post is added.

Auto-Subscription

imageOver the next 48 hours, all SAEM Community Group members will be auto-subscribed to the Legacy subscription option.

This includes members of academies, interest groups, committees, task forces, Board members, and AACEM members.

As you begin using the new system, you may decide that you like the Legacy option, or you may wish to change to a different option.  Watch our tutorial video that explains how you can change your subscription options.

Getting Started on the Community Site

imageIt's possible that, by the time you read this, you may well have already received messages from members in your group.  But in case you haven't had a chance to visit the Community site yet, here's some tips for how you can get started:

1.     Log in to the Community site using your SAEM username and password.  Don’t remember what they are?  Go to the Login area and follow the prompts. (TIP: We recommend you click on the “remember me” box the next time you log in— then you won’t have to on future visits.)

2.     Complete your profile.  Your colleagues will want to know a little bit about you.  Share  something new about yourself and upload your photo.  (TIP: If you have a LinkedIn account, you can import your info from LinkedIn.)

3.     Visit your Communities.  Keep up with conversations on the topics of your choice.

4.     Post a message.  Got a question?  Your colleagues have the answer!  Go to Discussion, then Post a Message to send a note to your colleagues. (TIP:  Some companies have very strict firewalls that may interfere with your ability to receive messages.  Please be sure to ask your IT department to “white list” egroups.connectedcommunity.org.)

5.     Share.  Just like the “take a penny, leave a penny” model, if you find something useful in the SAEM Community, we hope you will share something of your own! You might even ask colleagues for feedback on your shared resource.  To share a document, go to Libraries, then Add a New Entry.

The following brief tutorials will help you get up to speed quickly:

Legacy Subscription Email Tips

Here are a few tips on the new Legacy Subscription Emails:

  • To reply to a discussion that is ongoing, simply hit "Reply" in your email program and reply as you would any other email (Don't let the "DoNotReply" in the email address confuse you! You can indeed reply to these emails).
  • To begin a new discussion, hit "Reply" in your email program to one of the emails your received previously from another post and then paste the email address that appears in the "To" field into a different, new email.  Change the subject line, type your message, and hit "Send"; you have started a new Discussion! (TIP: You can save that pasted email address to your email address book and use it to start new Discussions anytime.)
  • Remember that, using the Legacy email subscription option, you are not able to include attachments with your post.  If you want to include an attachment, you must either change to "Real Time" or "Daily Digest", or else you can post your message directly from the SAEM Community site.  Attachments that others have included with their messages will appear as links in the Legacy emails you receive, which will take you to the Community site to view or download the attached files.

We are very excited about the potential for this new system.  Over the next few weeks, please test it out as you have opportunity, and if you have any difficulties, please let us know on the SAEM Community Support and Feedback pages (click "Discussions" and then "Post New Message").  We will be monitoring that community frequently, and we will try to respond to you as quickly as we are able.

Thanks so much for your participation!
