Bio

​Timothy Schaefer, M.D. is a Clinical Professor and founding Chair, Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria (UICOM-P) since 2014. He also serves as the Chair, Department of Emergency Medicine, OSF HealthCare (OSFHC), Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Dr. Schaefer received his medical degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine and completed residency at William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak Michigan.  During residency, he served on the Emergency Medicine Residents ’ Association Board of Directors. He has spent his 30-year career at OSFHC and UICOM-P. He has served on multiple committees and held various roles at both the medical school and hospital, including the University of Illinois College of Medicine Executive Committee, UICOM-P Interim Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education (DIO), OSFHC Systems Co-Business Leader for EMR Replacement Project (Epic) and OSFHC Systems Physician’s Advisory Committee. Prior to becoming Chair, he served as Associate Residency Program Director for 22 years. During his career, he has received  multiple teaching and mentorship awards and helped train 282 emergency medicine physicians. His professional interests include medical education, wellness and informatics and his personal interests include spending time with family, running, and golfing.
