Bio

Rob Cooney, MD, MSMedEd, FACEP, is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA, where he also serves as the Associate Dean of Faculty Development for the health system.  He graduated from Jefferson Medical College and completed his Emergency Medicine Residency at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, including serving as Chief Resident in his final year.  While beginning his teaching career, he further completed a Masters in Medical Education at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and served as a Quality Improvement Scholar with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. He has lectured nationally and internationally on social media in education, learning theories, the flipped classroom, and competency based medical education. He served as a member of the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education’s Emergency Medicine Milestones 2.0 Task Force. His scholarly work focuses on multiple areas of medical education, most recently as the site-PI for an American Medical Association Reimaging Residency Grant. This grant seeks to solidify the definition, teaching, and assessment of the Systems Based Practice competency.  He currently contributes to the International Clinician Educators blog where he provides monthly book reviews, serves as a faculty member for Academic Life in Emergency Medicine’s Faculty Incubator, and serves on the ACGME Milestone’s Evaluation Task Force.
