Dr. Bruce Adams was selected in 2012 as the founding Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Born in San Diego, he attended the University of California at Davis and then enrolled at the Uniformed Services medical school and joined the US Army. After a medicine internship at Walter Reed, he worked as a flight surgeon in Army Special Operations. Dr. Adams subsequently completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Eisenhower Army Medical Center followed by an emergency medicine residency at the Medical College of Georgia. His 27 year military career spanned a wide breadth of clinical, academic, combat and leadership positions, culminating as the Deputy Hospital Commander for Fort Bliss Texas. Dr. Adams resides in the San Antonio area with his wife Tina and three children.
